About Me
With a degree in Elementary Education and a specialization in Early Childhood Development, my career aspirations have always been closely linked to my own personal values and interests: working with children. So, when I was blessed with a child of my own, my long-time ambition of opening my own dayhome finally seemed viable and, currently, is in the process of coming to fruition.
Many of the personal and occupational decisions in my life, from University onward, have been building towards this goal. While completing my degree, I was employed as a community support worker—working with children with special needs ranging in age from 4-months to 17 years. The challenges that accompany that line of work required a significant amount of additional training in the field of childcare: courses from Safety and Universal precautions to Medication Administration and Ethics of touch were necessary requisites of employment.
Once I graduated from University, I spent several years as a Substitute Teacher and taught classes that ranged from pre-kindergarten Head Start programs to Grade 12 courses. More importantly, the time I spent as a Substitute Teacher afforded me the flexibility to continue working with the type of children I loved: pre-school-aged. As a Nanny for 2-year old twin girls and their 3-year old sister, I had the opportunity to continue working with young children while I was preparing to have my own.
In the summer of 2008, my husband (who is also a teacher) and I moved to St. Albert with our newborn son. He is now three years old and his sister is one.
